Introduction

Filling the role of the wide-screened brother in a suite of 6, the Copia Ocean 9” electronic reader offers more reading spaces. It’s the perfect size for the avid readers of broadsheet dailies and for those who love the convenience of not having to turn page too often.

Features – Hardware and Software

Basically, the touch screen Ocean 9” reader is the bigger, more able version of the Copia Ocean 6”. Like the Ocean 6”, the 9-inch Copia Ocean device is also packed with 4GB storage that is capable of holding up to 3000 books and a microSD card slot for additional media files. A 4-directional tilt sensor or accelerometer automatically orients the page to landscape or portrait.

Limited Time Offer On The Amazon Kindle 2. Click Now For Details!

On the one hand, the Copia Ocean 9” comes with a bigger footprint (162.8 x 207.8 x 11-mm), wider screen (9 inches), and more pixel per inch (768×1024 resolution) than the Ocean 6”. A stereo speaker is included so you can opt to listen to audiobooks or music without plugging a headset.

The Ocean 9” also sports the same gray casing and left-sided control buttons on a silver strip found in the Ocean 6”. However, the bigger Copia Ocean offers a more streamlined, design than its smaller sibling. With no extraneous spaces, the 9-inch reader is mostly screen.

What Copia Ocean 9” doesn’t offer is 3G. It has WiFi, but if that’s not enough, DMC is also rolling out a Copia Ocean 9” 3G. The 3G version is the exact replica of the Ocean 9” – from looks to storage size and WiFi – and has only one difference: it lets you stay connected to the Internet at all times.

Limited Time Offer On The Amazon Kindle 2. Click Now For Details!

The Bottom Line

No word on the price yet, but based on reports that the price range for Copia Readers will be from $199 to $299, the Ocean 9” Reader will probably fill the role of DMC’s mid-tier entry. If it costs less than $300, it may give wide-screen rivals like the iRex and the Kindle DX a run for their money.

Overview

Having a device that lets you read books well is worth claps of praise. Having a device that also lets you share books with friends and form a social community around books is surely worth a standing ovation. The latter is what DMC’s upcoming Copia eReaders hope to bring into the eReading world.

Unlike most eReader makers who bring only one or two new eReader at a time, DMC will debut a suite of 6 reading devices. Grouped into two product lines called Tidal and Ocean, the devices will offer nearly the same features including B/W capacitive touchscreen, WiFi connectivity, and the Copia social platform. The few differences are found in hardware design and size, 3G connectivity, and screen resolution among others.

Limited Time Offer On The Amazon Kindle 2. Click Now For Details!

What this means is that you will be able enjoy the social experience of reading that Copia offers regardless of the price or size of your device. However, if you are looking for a more pocketable reading companion, the Copia Ocean 6” reader fits the bill. The smallest among the Copia devices, it is also the most budget-minded.

Features – Hardware and Software

The Copia Ocean 6” eReader is basically just the smaller version of the Ocean 9” reader. Both sport a gray chassis with control buttons on silver metallic strip on the left side of the device. But the smaller 125 x 170 x 11-mm Copia Ocean 6” reader fits more easily into your pocket or handbag.

A 4-directional tilt sensor automatically orients the device to a landscape or portrait mode following the physical orientation of the device. Although 600 x 800 resolution is rather basic, 4GB internal memory is twice that of the Kindle 2. The device can store up to 3,000 books, while a microSD card slot gives you the option to store additional media collections.

Limited Time Offer On The Amazon Kindle 2. Click Now For Details!

The Bottom Line

Most budget entry devices such as that of Sony and Jinke feature only basic reading features. Apparently, DMC is not interested in concentrating all its best features on its most expensive device. The Ocean 6” may be the smallest of the Copia eReaders, but it is as socially capable as its bigger siblings. And with a price tag of less than $200, it’s not hard to imagine it can be the next best seller.
