Following the announcment on 2 new Kindle devices, Jeff Bezos gave a short interview to USA Today to explain his take on the evolving world of eReaders and eBooks. For starters, Bezos predicted that Kindle e-book sales will “surpass paperback sales sometime in the next 9 to 12 months,” and that “sometime after that, we’ll surpass the combination of paperback and hardcover.” That’s quite an amazing facts considering the Kindle was first launched less than 3 years ago.
Mr. Bezos also expressed his thoughts on the future of the Kindle. In a response to a question about the “device (hardware) business” Bezos replied:
This is our third generation of Kindle. I hope we’ll be sitting here talking about the 10th and the 20th generation of Kindle. We will also make our apps available on a wide variety of devices so people can read on LCD-based devices, tablet computers, smartphones, laptops. We have taken as a mission to have the best purpose-built reading device. We want to have the best Kindle bookstore.
