Kno, the company previously known as Kakai revealed their 14 Inch, Dual screen ereader at the D8 conference in California. Becuase of it dual screens the Kno weighs 5.5 pounds (2.5 KG). The Kno aims to be a desktop tablet — that is, not to be held, but to be opened and worked on as students normally would with their books. The Kno is aimed at students using big, heavy text books.
The reason it’s so large is that it needs to display already created textbook materials. The Kno comes with WiFi and Blutooth and will support nearly all eBook formats including PDF. It will have stylus input that will allow for students to make annotations,
highlights and sticky notes as well as having built-in bookmarking features, internet browsing and Flash support. The OS itself is Linux based.
The next step for Kakai will be a round of fund raising as it just exited stealth mode for the Kno. They’ll be announcing the prices this Summer, but for now they said to expect it to be under $1,000.
