Amazon just updated their business partners and affiliates (AKA: Amazon Associates) operating agreement. After cancelling commissions paid on Kindle books, Affiliates can now earn 4-8.5% on each ebook sold through their website.

More than a year ago, Amazon cancelled commissions that were paid  on Kindle books sales. As ebook prices were dropping to $9.99 (and lower), the margain left for Amazon was so low that they decided to cancel commissions on Kindle books.

With the latest developmetns in the ereading world and the rise of the B&N Nook and the Apple iPad our guees is that Amazon feels a little threatened and decided to try and fight back.  With thousands of active affiliates, publishers and business partners and with decent commissions paid on ebooks, Amazon will definately improve their ebook sales. An affiliate can earn up to 8.5% on each ebook sale, depending on the volume of books sold.

Amazon also announced is is lowering commissions paid on the Kindle device from a fixed 10% (regardless of number of devices sold) to 4-8.5%, again, depending on the volume of sales.
