Features – Hardware and Software
The Digital Reader 1000s’ high resolution makes reading a comfort. Users not only get to enjoy having a large screen to read on, but also have the convenience of being able to in a wide range of lighting conditions. An additional fun and functional feature allows the user to scribble notes and doodle on the touch screen with a stylus. Reflow capability automatically adjusts any content into the size of the screen display. And with 10.2 inch-wide screen display, the IREX reader makes any document look seamless.
The device has no internal storage, with all files being kept on an SD card. A 1GB SD card is bundled with purchase, which is enough for about a thousand documents or 400 images. One full charge gives you a battery life of about 12 hours, with a charging time of about 5 hours via a USB port.

The IREX Digital Reader is a great device for its intended purpose of document management in a fully electronic office. Users who demand greater stamina, mobility and more features in their electronic readers may need to look elsewhere. Otherwise, the large 10.2 touch screen is a novel and very handy feature to have.

The massive touch screen of the Digital Reader 1000S is a great convenience in keeping with its original design function: a fully electronic paperless office environment. Documents may be viewed electronically in their original form with ease, and notes and annotations may be made on the fly with the stylus. The Electronic Paperless Display technology reduces glare and improves the visibility of the text onscreen. The device also comes with the PressReader service that offers users the option to download from 1020 daily newspapers in 81 countries and read them offline on the device. Formats supported by the 1000S are PDF, TXT, HTML, DRM, Mobipocket, PRC, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and BMP. More file formats will be supported in the future as firmware updates become available.

Cons
Unfortunately, the large screen does come at a price. The device is rather heavy compared to other electronic readers, and battery life is significantly reduced at just 12 hours, making the Digital Reader 1000S unsuited for heavy readers on the go. There is also no internal hard or flash disk on the device, making it wholly dependent on SD cards for file storage. Sold at $799, many find the IREX 1000 S highly priced.
